Band 8.0 Sample Essay

There has been a worrying trend that children watch an excessive amount of television and do not engage much in active or creative activities. This trend can be ascribed to a number of reasons and it must be addressed by definite actions.

Reasons for the trend vary. The primary reason is that children’s television programmes are being broadcast all day with addictive contents, such as vivid and colourful animations. Cartoon Network and Disney Channel with their all-day-long series of animation shows are an evident example of this. Another clear reason is that parents nowadays are busy with their work, so they want children to focus on an activity that does not require much of their attention such as watching television. These two reasons make children spend more time in front of the television screen; this sedentary lifestyle prevents them from participating in active or creative activities.

A number of strong measures must be implemented to tackle the issue. The first solution is limiting the amount of time that a child can watch television. This could be done by activating the parental control mode and setting a fixed operating time limit on their television set. Another feasible solution is that parents must spend more time with their children and together they could engage in outdoor or creative activities. For example, parents could form a family sport team that practices on a regular basis, which may appeal to children more than television.

To conclude, there are obvious reasons why children watch too much television and spend little time on active and creative activities. This negative trend could be tackled by a number of remedies, such as activating the parental control mode on television sets.

Experts have often argued that in this day and age children spend much of their time on watching television instead of doing physical or creativity activities. I fairly believe that all of these changes are rooted in technology, and parents and government should play their effective role to eradicate these detrimental effects. To begin with, life has become much more complicated than in the past, as technology has revolutionized our way of life, although it makes easier everything for us, the adjustment to the new lifestyle comes at a high price; so, In my opinion, earning a sufficiently high salary is a important consideration as people need adequate income to keep pace with new innovations. Thus, both father and mother should carry the burden of work life, especially when they have a child and responsible for her which in turn leads to hectic schedule of parents. As a result, parents don not have enough time to spend a a part of they along side their children; consequently, they occupy their children with television’s programs which has a 24-hour coverage; because of the vivid and colorful animations and series kids have become addicted to these kinds of programs, and they have made these animations as their preference. This way of life is facing children with lack of physical and creativity activities. For instance, kids prefer to play video game or watch animation rather than coordinate play with their peers. It is worth noticing that there is a dire need of some restrictions for the television’ programs to lead kids to the others activities. Parents can play an active role in this circumstance, as they have control over of their child especially in their formative years. They can organize an apt plan so as to handle overall time that their kids watch television. Additionally, the government must impose some restrictions for broadcasting kid’s programs. The administration should alter the 24-hour coverage policy and determine the specific time for broadcasting the animations, in this case parents should pay more attention to their child’s activities and hobbies; Moreover, they must find extra time to amuse their children with some hobbies which require more physical and mental activity. For instance, parents could arrange some family game or picnics to spend more family time together and attract children to the other activities instead of watching television. Hence, parents and government can transform children’s way of life by their sustainable measures. All in all, with the advent of the technology our lifestyle has changed utterly and children’s life have been affected by these changes. In recent years, there has been a growing concern by researchers and indeed the parents that the younger generation are somewhat disengaged from physical activities because of dramatic expansion of media. This essay firstly, will account for this phenomenon, and secondly, will discuss some practical implements to change this trend. On the one hand, born into a digital age, or more specifically the age of the media, the younger generation simply accesses interesting programs through the digital devices they grew up using: laptops, tablets, and in particular TV. Consequently, this has led them to be entertained without physical and intellectual activities. In addition, parents could not afford time to spend with their children due to their hectic life, thereby preferring to abdicate their responsibility by preparing gadgets for children. For instance, a research produced by Cambridge University revealed that more than 60% of parents in the UK do not have enough time to spend with their offspring, and as a result entertain them with the media. On the other hand, motivations for following physical activities mostly rely on family gathering and school curriculum. Accordingly, not only do schools educate youngsters, but they also could encourage students to do more physical activities due to a suitable curriculum. For example, according to a recent research which was conducted by a Swedish institute, children who experienced a balanced program chart in school were less likely to consume their interests through digital devices.
