IELTS General Writing Task 1 Practice Test 11
Write a letter to your friend about a book that you have read recently. Include the following in your letter:
- Describe the book.
- Why do you want him/her to read it?
- Tell him/her how to get the book.
Sample Letter
Dear Smith,
Hope you’re well. It’s been a while since I last heard from you. Hope everything is good with you. I am writing to you to share a recent experience with you. Since a few weeks, I have been drawn towards books. Thus, I wanted to tell you about my last read.
I read A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman. The book took me on an emotional ride mixed with bots of laughter and crying sessions. The story is about an old man called Ove who recently lost his wife. Everytime he thinks of killing himself, something funny and strange happens to him.
Although he is a grumpy old man, his neighbours force him to be a part of the group, changing his perspective and personality.
I am sure you’ll definitely like reading this book. If you are unable to find it in any of the nearest bookstores, you can always order it from eCommerce portals.. You can also download an eBook and read it on your phone. Do let me know how you found it.

Dear Mary How is it going? I'm sorry for being late to answer your last email, I was so busy with new house work. Last night when I was sorting books in my room, I found an old book called "The Demonologist". I don't remember the name of author but it was based on Warren's experiences during their works. Do you remember that movie we saw together last year , "The Conjuring"? I remember that time when we were watching it, and your dog barked, both of us scared to death. And after that you were petrified to even go to bathroom alone, and I couldn't slept that night without lamps on! Those good old days! I wish you were near me and I could gifted you this book, I'm pretty sure you will found of it, it's so scary. But I'd say you can find it on Amazon and they will send it to you in a matter of time. Overall, it is a nice piece, yet there are some mishaps you are going to have to avoid on the test. I am quite sure a better revision of your writing can be of help. Pay attention that Modal verbs must be followed by the base form of a verb. There is always room for improvement.
