New technologies have changed the way children spend their free time. Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
Currently, it is true that the way children spend their leisure time has been changed by new technology. While this has several benefits, I believe that the drawbacks far outweigh them.
On the one hand, there are some advantages to children spending their spare time on advanced technologies. Firstly, many children tend to enjoy playing computer games, and such games might help improve their cognitive development. For example, strategic games require players to be good at problem-solving and be able to deal with unexpected situations, so children who play these games can better their logical thinking and problem-solving skills. Secondly, since the source of online information is huge and readily available, young people might benefit from early exposure to the Internet. If people are able to browse the Internet at a young age, they can start their learning process earlier, and as a result, can advance their knowledge as they grow up.
However, I would argue that the advantages discussed above are outweighed by the disadvantages. One main drawback is that children who enjoy spending time in front of the computer screen are often reluctant to do exercise. Low physical activity levels are likely to result in children becoming overweight, and in turn, they would end up being obese. In addition, some games tempt people to continue playing for hours, which could lead to gaming addiction. In role-playing games, for instance, people might need to stay in front of the computer for several hours in order to progress to higher levels, and therefore children may spend an excessive amount of time on games.
In conclusion, while there are some advantages to children spending time on advanced technologies, it seems to me that the disadvantages are more significant.
Technology has been triumphant over sundry verticals nowadays which has modified the leisure time spent by the children around. Although that comes along with the pace digitization has been moving ahead with and could prove advantageous in the same regard, however, it has its major share of drawbacks that supersedes its advantages in the long marathon. In the forthcoming paragraphs, this essay will analyze both sides.
There are a few pros to children putting their hours of free time in learning the advancement of the technologies and the modus operandi of the same as that keeps them moving and aligning with the dynamic world, especially, during current times. It enhances their digital knowledge that somehow has become the need of the hour in every walks of life. Not only does it improvise their techno acumen, but also keeps them engrossed and absorbed and hence magnifies their wizardry in this domain. For instance, learning coding, programming, and web development aggrandizes their discernment and thereby, prepares them for employment opportunities.
Nevertheless, there are a plethora of significant downsides to that, as well. The exposure and access children get at such a tender age to the avenues of the digital world has often proven to be potentially hazardous to the personalities and thought processes of children using them more. It has been surveyed that teenagers are more prone and vulnerable to be fallen into the trap of cybercrimes and phishing. Moreover, vehement content and certain sites are doing more harm than good. Health demerits again are found very predominantly amongst the segment of children indulged heavily in the usage of computers, be it, obesity, dry eyes symptoms, stress, migraine, etc. Graphic violence again is one of the most pronounced dynamics when it comes to the adverse foreground. Certain games like “Bluewhale” were proscribed after multiple cases were registered against its effects on the younger generation that was reportedly committing suicide post reaching the final stage of the game.
All in all, it could be concluded that although technical expansion is a requirement right now, the pitfalls of children spending their free time on the same often overtakes its advantages and is riskier in the long run.
Bonus questions:
With the advent of the internet children's recreational activity have utterly been revolutionized. Nevertheless, it has a host of advantages, this essay submits that the drawbacks of aforementioned transformation overshadow its advantages. On the one hand, thanks to the technology children allocate a great deal of their time over playing computerized game, which drive them to enhance problem solving flairs and aiding them in having logical and rational thought; accordingly, they would be potentially better to cope with the adversities, which confront them in their unforeseen life. Moreover, some games incline children to acquire knowledge along with entertaining them, so they can get to fortify their mental artillery as soon as possible; a part from that, children may come to show fancy for a particular major and foster their skills as the older they grow. On the other hand, the physical and mental affliction, which may be thrust on them by playing game could be irreversible in the long term. Regarding physical problem, a sedentary lifestyle would result in a lot of health problem such as obesity, which seems to be pervasive midst young children across the world, and subsequently they would be more prone to suffer from heart disease in their future life. Although the way children spend their leisure time has been transformed by technology in a good way, i firmly believe that its disadvantages overshadow the advantages. To begin with, although i think the drawbacks outweigh the benefits, there are some advantages which i want to mention. In this day and age children spend much of their time on online game; in addition, with the advent of the internet children are equipped by a broad source of information. First of all, strategic game planned unpredictable and questionable circumstances which fortify children’s analytical thinking and problem- solving skills. These kinds of games face players with uncertain situations and strengthen the beneficial competencies so as to be applied in their unforeseen future. Second of all, technology has altered utterly our lifestyle, as it provides people with a wide range of data; thus, youngsters can enhance their knowledge which in turn leads to boosting their learning abilities. For example, a research conducted in Isfahan University of Technology demonstrates children’s general information has mounted with the dawn of the internet. On the other hand, technology has revolutionized our way of life. In my opinion, technology is a double-edged sword, as it promotes our lifestyle, eliminates children’s activities. Children enjoy spending time in front of the computer screen, so they are often reluctant to do physical activities. Lack of exercising leads to detrimental impacts on health such as overweighting, and they end up being obese. Some games tempt children to playing for a long hour which in turn leads to game addiction; therefore, children distance themselves from their assignments and face them with deficiencies in their lessons. Moreover, in many of online games the ubiquity of violence makes it normal. Unfortunately, children have predisposition toward misconduct intrinsically; hence, they may come to see these violence as normal. For instance, many of kids are suffering from overweight as they are addicted to online games and don’t have enough activities. All in all, nevertheless there are couple of advantages because of this transformation, the defects have more harmful effect on children’s life.
The fast-paced growth of technology has been one of the hot topics that scientists might not be able to get a grip on its disadvantages. Sincerely, I do agree that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. On the one hand, technology has been emerging with every inch of our daily life, and it is an inevitable destiny. Primarily, parents' crucial task is to teach their children time management and how the technology shall be used with excellent acumen. On that behalf, this dire situation can not mostly blame on the technology. Secondly, the internet and technology on top of it is a vast world that childern can learn and seek fascinating information that is used to take many hours of hard work studying to get a hand on it. Therefore, the part that technology plays is overwhelming, especially in serious games. However, Technology and the internet mostly have an essential role in forming the child's personality and interests. Thus, firstly, how devices that children use are not restricted. There are so many devices and web pages that a child can go and pretend to be an adult. Lastly, One of the most critical slogans that have been used for generations is that these pieces of techs that are in hand s of customers will make life dramatically easier, Yet the side effect of this comfort is a lack of patience that will be rained upon that child. Overall, the disadvantages that the technology brings to the table are far more solvable and indeed would be taken care of shortly, Which brings us to the topic that but all of the things that we mentioned, it is clear that advantages are far more tremendous and distinguishable.
